Goal
To
foster a thorough understanding of the scientific principles of physical
fitness and to enhance the ability to utilize physical exercise toward
achievement of healthful living.
Objectives
At the completion of the course
the student will be able to:
1. Discuss
fundamental scientific concepts of (a) physical fitness, (b) body mechanics,
(c) nutrition and body composition, (d) stress, and (e) the importance of
physical exercise.
2. Explain
the contributions of physical exercise to the prevention of certain life
threatening diseases.
3. Discuss
the relationship of physical exercise and activity to the aging process.
4. Design
a safe personal exercise program based upon (a) personal physical
fitness/exercise needs, (b) practical techniques for evaluating physical
fitness/physical exercises, and (c) programs for aiding the individual in
becoming physically fit and more efficient in daily life and selected fitness
activities.
5. Discuss
the theory that physical fitness has significance to society through its impact
on decreasing health care costs.
